First of all, I use the technique outlined in my Frugal Family’s Guide to Saving Big on Groceries. If you haven’t already, you can download it here!
I would like to address some other questions that I get often:
What is a Frugal Meal?
A frugal meal can mean many things to many people. It is really about prioritizing what is important to you and your family.
For example, if eating healthy is very important to you, then you should prioritize your grocery budget to include healthy foods rather than junk food, even though junk foods might seem “cheaper.”
You can easily shift some of your budget to accommodate a certain meal plan that fits with your prioritizes.
How Can I Eat Healthy Frugally?
There are many, many different healthy foods that are not going to break the bank and make you ruin your budget. Take bananas, for example, I personally can get bananas at Aldi in my town for about $0.23 per pound. I can eat bananas plain, with toast and peanut butter, or blended in a simple smoothie.
Again, it goes back to your prioritizes. It is also very helpful if you develop a meal plan and stick to it. It is easy to go over your budget when you are out and about and need to eat something. You are either going to make a bad food choice to save some money or you are going to go over your budget to find a “healthy” option.
What Do You Eat When You’re Broke?
There are tons of delicious frugal pantry staples to keep on hand for when you’re broke. I can’t tell you how many times my husband and kids said that there was nothing to eat and I whipped up a delicious dinner for the whole family, like my Almost Homemade Bacon Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper!
Keeping some basics on hand will ensure that you can always whip up a meal. Also, make sure you are developing a meal plan to use the items you already have in the house and are spending the minimum on groceries. You can find out more about how I feed my family of 7 on about $25 per week (on average) when I use this simple reverse meal planning strategy.
Of course, don’t forget to use up your leftovers. I adore our air fryer for this! If you are interested in more air fryer recipes, here are 175 to get you started!
How Can I Be Frugal With Groceries?
Plan, plan, plan!
I seriously can not stress this enough. Make a list and stick to it. When I fail to meal plan and just wing it at the grocery store I can easily drop $500!
When I plan ahead using my meal planning tactics, I can cut the grocery bill in half if not even more!
Another tip is to make sure that you are stocking up on things they when are on sale! You bet your butt I bought all the bacon when it was on sale for $1.99 per pound!
I love these recipe ideas! I get so sick or making the same old ground beef meals over and over again. I find it hard to find frugal meals that my family enjoys. I will certainly be adding some of these to my weekly meal plan!
