I can’t believe that I have been blogging for 6 months already!
WOW…how the time flies!
It has been a frustrating yet enjoyable ride!
If you have read any of my other income reports, you know that I don’t B.S.
I lay out the “brass tacks” when it comes to what I am spending and making on this blog.
I won’t lie, blogging is hard! If you do it right that is.
The majority of my time blogging is NOT actually spent on writing. If you have signed up for my free email course on how to start a blog, you already know that blogging is about 20% writing and 80% promotion.
I love blogging so much that I actually bought a domain for a second blog!
And I have plans for like 6 more! (Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated as things develop!)
And to answer your question…yes, I’m crazy, and no I don’t sleep ?.
Although February was not great and I was in the red again, I am still growing and am well aware that blogging is not a get rich quick plan.
I hit Tailwind hard again for scheduling my pins for February but had a late start. But more on that in just a minute.
Review of January Goals
I was not as consistent as I would have like to have been. ? But that’s ok, I’m trying not to beat myself up about it.
We got our first foster placement in mid-February which threw a wrench into my schedule. In a good way though. And if you’re keeping count, yes that is 6 kids now! So there is always something going on.
I am hoping with improving my diet or at least trying to, that will give me a lot more energy to get work done after the kids go to bed and before they get up in the morning. I may not get a ton of sleep, but I really like my sleep, and am NOT a morning person by nature. So we’ll see how that little experiment goes!
Use analytics to my advantage:
Learning about analytics and how to use them properly is a process. I know that Tailwind has some great analytics, but I haven’t really tapped into them yet. For example, you can look at board insights and see how many repins you are getting from specific boards. So if you are getting a lot of repins on a specific board, make sure you are adding more relevant pins to that board.
I know that one of the reasons that my pageviews did not increase as much as I would have liked is that I had turned off my Boardbooster campaigns that were handling my group boards and have pretty much ignored my group boards altogether. I also have a low version of the Tailwind Tribes and wasn’t pinning as much stuff to there.

As of mid-January, I had finally hit the $100 payout threshold for Media.net ads! Whoo Hoo! And on February 27th I got my first official ads payout from Media.net!
Let me tell you, I did a happy dance when that payment came through! It has been a lot of work, but well worth it. Now I have to focus on getting my pageviews up!
I am also so close to meeting the threshold for my first Adsense payout. My lifetime earnings so far are $77.52.
- ShopStyle Collective-$5.09
Gross Income = $23.11
Nothing too exciting here to report. No Amazon Associate sales…boo! No affiliate sales from HostGator...boo again!
I feel with my affiliate stuff, I have kinds of been all over the place. What I should be doing is honing in on one or two programs and write some killer posts to reflect that. I am also hoping once I have the resources page up and running, that will also help towards affiliate sales.
Although my pageviews didn’t substantially increase, I was happy to see it in the green rather than the red, especially considering February has 3 days less than January.
Even though the actual amount of pageviews only went up by 1,000, there was a 36.71% increase!
I’ll take it!
I am going to assume this increase in activity is due to my recent activity on Pinterest and filling up my Tailwind cue.
I added just over 2,000 new pins from January to February.
It’s very interesting to go back and look at how my pageviews have fluctuated over the last 6 months.
I think one of the reasons my pageviews shot up in November is due to several factors. It was the holidays and I had I published my gift guide post. I had also gotten accepted into group boards and was doing a lot of manual pinning in group boards and Tailwind tribes while they were still in the beta testing process.
In April, I am planning on spending a lot of time on group boards and will be testing out a paid version of the Tailwind Tribes to see if I can get a spike in traffic. I want to make sure I have a solid plan in place first and work on getting more content out in for the month of March.
- Hostgator-$11.95 + $12.95 for a new domain name (shhh…it’s a secret for right now!)
- Google Drive-$1.99
- Canva for Work-$12.95
- ConvertKit-$29 (debating about switching to the free version of MailChimp until I reach the 2,000 follower mark)
- BoardBooster-$5 (I am probably going to downgrade this one as I don’t use it how I want to otherwise I would have to pay a lot more for it.)
Yes, I bought a new domain name and am planning on starting a second blog in a totally different niche.
Why you ask? Isn’t The Daily Change Jar enough work already?!
Why yes it is! LOL But I made the decision to start a second blog as an experiment.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret, I’m a Multipotentialite.
A multipotentialite is someone who has many interests and creative pursuits.
So what does that have to do with buying another domain name? You see, I get bored easily…squirrel!
But I also like to try and test out new ideas.
Buying the domain for the new blog is two-fold, I want to see if this other niche will generate more income via display ads AND so that I can gather data for when I start my blog about blogging.
Did you catch all of that?
My end goal is to start a blog about blogging but I want to be able to teach people how to make money blogging without blogging about blogging.
Wow, now I’m out of breath!
But don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated on everything as my project for world domination [**evil laugh**] progresses.
Now back to your regularly scheduled program…
So gross income for February was $23.11 minus $82.87 in expenses, totaling…
Drum roll, please!
I have a lot of things that I would like to get done in March. In addition to everything for this blog, I want to launch the new blog beginning of April, which means I need to get everything set up for the new blog in March.
First and foremost, however, is to print out my blogging goals for the month of March and post them on my wall right in front of my desk. This will serve as a constant reminder of what I want to accomplish.
Audit the blog
I am always looking for ways to improve the blog. Plus I am always learning new things about blogging every day! I have added a few new plugins and learned a few new techy tricks since starting the blog six months ago. So I plan to go back through each post and page and see if there is anything that needs updating or improving. I plan to do this every 6 months as a general maintenance.
Finish the resources page
I am so close to finishing this! I had read in a post somewhere that a great way to increase conversions for affiliate links on a blog is to add “buy now” buttons. So that is one of the things I am adding to the resources page. It is also a great place to organize my affiliate links all in one place.
Publish 6 posts total
I have really been struggling to publish a post twice per week. Mostly because I haven’t given myself the time to work ahead on writing. Another one of those scheduling and consistency things you know. 2 posts per week would normally put me at 8 posts, I figure with 6 monthly that gives me a little wiggle room and then I don’t have to beat myself up if I miss one or two due to, you know…life.
Print out my blogging goals and post them right in front of my computer!
Done and Done! I am terrible at writing things down somewhere and then forgetting about it or misplacing the paper. I am setting a recurring monthly goal for myself to print out my blogging goals and post them right in front of my desk where I will see them on a daily basis so I can’t forget about them!
There is so much I want to get done with the blog this year, but it all comes down to good planning!
